With the economic crisis and everybody's finances going downhill, of course we are always looking for ways to maximize our earnings. But saving doesn't mean we have to sacrifice quality. The good news is there are still services as well as products available that offer us quality at affordable prices.

When it comes to eyeglasses one of the leading providers is Zenni Optical. Even the New York Times have mentioned this company and recommends it if you are looking for cheap pair of backup glasses. They sell generic frames, including lenses with anti-scratch coating, for as little as $8. That is a great price, don't you think?

The cheap price doesn't mean the selections are not as nice. In fact, I'm quite taken with this one with blue frame. Fashionably trendy! Glasses can do amazing things to a boring wardrobe. In fact, I use it quite often to change looks. You know you can change from a nerdy, geeky look one day and turn into fashionably chic with just a change of frames.

In case you're on the lookout for knockout glasses to spice up your wardrobe, check zenni optical. These eyewear provider has really been making waves as a source of affordable but very stylish glasses. What's more is that their selection is really extensive. Just head over to their site and start browsing for the styles you want, and mind you, you might find several styles to your liking and getting more than one pair is really inevitable.

10 Easy Steps To An Organized Home Office

Without the structure of an office outside of our homes, it is easy to scatter anything work related all over the house. We still need to complete our work in a timely and efficient manner. After all, the less time we spend working, the more time we have with our family. An organized home office will make for a faster and more pleasant workday. Here are a few ideas to get you and your home office organized.

1) Do you have a home office? You don’t necessarily need an entire room, but you should have a well-defined space to contain all your office essentials and files.

A desk in your bedroom that will hold your files, paper, pens, calculator and of course computer will do fine, especially in the beginning.

If your “office” consists of the dining room table, some of the drawers in your kitchen, a file cabinet in the basement and the computer in the bedroom, you may want to think about organizing everything in one spot.

Are you spending a lot of time searching for a particular document, running from room to room to find it? Consider moving all your files and papers to one central location, preferably close to the computer if that’s where you are doing the bulk of your work.

2) Keep your personal files and papers separate from your business things.

You will eventually have enough paperwork to deal with without having your personal bills, magazines and the kids’ after-school schedule mixed in there. Create a separate spot for those somewhere outside of your home office space.

3) Create a file system that works for you. Remember, you may be working for someone else, but when it comes to your home office, you are your own boss.

Think about how you look for a particular file or piece of paper. What will be the easiest way for you to find it? Then create a file system that works for you. Don’t worry, if you don’t get it right the first time, you can always resort and try again. Sooner or later you will come up with a system that is “just right” for you.

4) Take a good look at your work area. Do you have piles of papers, files, mail, floppy discs and CDs lying around? Do you notice anything else piling up? Set aside a few hours and put everything away. Use your new file system and find “homes” for anything else.

5) Now that you have your office organized, set aside a few minutes at the end of your workday to keep it that way. Try to “leave work” for the day with a clean, empty desk. You will appreciate it the next morning. This will also prevent you from ever coming across a huge pile of papers again.

6) Add a personal touch to your office. Bring in some pictures of the kids; add some pretty plants, inspirational quotes, or anything else you can think of that will make your office a pleasant place to work in. In addition to getting and keeping you in a good mood whenever you step in your office, you are more likely to keep it clean and organized if it is a place you treasure. So splurge a little on some special office d├ęcor.

7) Let’s talk about the files on your computer. You can waist just as much time searching for an online document as for a piece of paper. If your computer is used for work as well as for personal use, create a work folder and use subfolders for particular employers, projects etc.

Again, come up with a file system that works for you and keep your work files separate from your personal files. This is particularly important if other family members access the computer as well. If that’s the case, and you are using Windows XP, I strongly recommend setting up a separate user account just for work and password protecting it. This will prevent other family members from accidentally changing or deleting your work files.

8) In addition to your regular files, you also want to keep your emails organized. Let’s be honest, we have all wasted time searching for a particular email that contained some vital information we needed fast. Setting up folders for different clients and projects has worked well for me, but again find a system that works for you and stick with it. Sort the email as soon as you read it. It only takes a second or two to drop it in the appropriate folder, but will save you a lot of time if you have to find it later.

9) Now that you have a good filing system (both physical and digital) in place, set aside a little time every few months (or weeks if appropriate) to purge your files. We can quickly accumulate a lot of documents both in our file cabinet and on our hard drive that we no longer need. At the very least, try to purge your files twice a year.

10) Now that your office is organized, you may also want to take a look at organizing your time. Again, come up with a system that works well for you.

I encourage you to start with a few of these ideas to get your office and yourself more organized. You will be surprised by how much time you will save not searching for files, papers or the stapler. Before long, you won’t know how you ever functioned without an organized home office.

I've always been fascinated by gemstones. What woman doesn't have this fascination? I was so fascinated that I actually had a business crafting fashion accessories out of them.

I find them interesting not only because of their beauty but what others believe to be their symbolic meanings as well as the luck and fortune they bring to those who wear them.

Most of us are aware of what is our birthstone. But not everyone knows what each stone symbolize. Here's what I found after a bit of searching:

January : GARNET - symbolizes Constancy.

February: AMETHYST - symbolizes Sincerity.

March: AQUAMARINE/BLOODSTONE - symbolizes Courage.

April:DIAMOND - symbolizesn Innocence.

May: EMERALD - symbolizes Love and Success

June: PEARL/ALEXANDRITE/MOONSTONE - symbolizes Health and Longevity

July: RUBY - symbolizes Contentment

August: PERIDOT/SARDONYX- symbolizes Married Happiness

September: SAPPHIRE - symbolizes Clear Thinking

October: OPAL/TOURMALINE -symbolizes Hope

November: TOPAZ- symbolizes Fidelity

December: TURQUOISE/ZIRCON - symbolizes Prosperity

Art Materials

Do you like art? Do you find doing something creative with your hands enjoyable? Me, I find it extremely enjoyable. When I'm doing something like drawing, painting, cutouts, scrapbooks, bead work, fashion jewelry or whatever project I could think of I find myself relieved of stress, energized and more ideas come to me. I always get a great sense of gratification whenever I finish an art project. It doesn't matter if its not perfect or really outstanding so long as its made by me and expresses what I feel.

There is one art I'd like to learn - pottery. I have a friend who so into it and what she could create is just so amazing. Everything just seems so delicate and so refined that I can't imagine it being made by just human hands. I don't really have much time to start on this new hobby, but she advices when you start out in pottery to get good materials. I'm particularly interested in glazed pottery so she said I have to choose good quality liquid glazes. She also advices to choose non-toxic glazes.

I found a company AMACO/rent offering supplies for pottery and other crafts. Their product list is particularly impressive and I particularly like the glaze chalk. I'm not sure what I could do with it yet, maybe for our next weekend painting project. I like the colors and what makes me want it for my art supplies is that it is lead free!

If you are into arts and planning to shop for your art materials, check out AMACO/Brent product website. They have all kinds of materials you can get creative with, clays, glazes, pottery equipment, dyes, paints, scrapbooking materials, brushes, molds, framing, glass products, kilns, plus resource materials. Definitely a haven for the artist in you and your kids..

Lee Ding Wen, a nine-year old Malaysian living in Singapore have created the finger painting program - Doodle Kids for Apple iPhone. The program allows users to draw images on the handset's touch screen using just their fingers.

And people are liking it! BBC Reports, in just over two weeks, Doodle Kids have been downloaded from Apple iTunes store more than 4,000 times.

Awesome isn't it? I myself have hard time figuring out how to tweak my theme, how to make some codes work for my blog, but this amazing nine year old is already fluent in six programming languages!

The iTouch application which he has written was made for his two younger sisters, aged three and five. He wrote the application in Pascal for just a few days..He must have started out really young. Anyway, his father is a technology officer for a technology company in Singapore.

Cool.. Isn't he? Check out his father website..

I like going out without makeup and I could do so and I'm quite proud that I have clear skin. A lot of people have asked me what could be the secret why I don't have a lot of breakouts and pimples etc.

First, I think it has something to do with genetics. My mom has really clear and beautiful skin for someone who is at age 60+. Luckily, she has probably passed this on to me. Another thing is how you take care of yourself and your body.

I've listed some of the things that is included in my skin care regimen..

1. Drink lots and lots of water! Almost everyone would give this advice coz its really true. Drink up your required amount daily and don't count in the sodas and coffee..

2. Eat healthy. Have lots of fruits and veggies in your diet..

3. When it comes to cleaners, don't settle for one just because its the most expensive, most popular brand you can get. Choose the one that is not loaded with too many chemicals. Avoid those with SD-40, isopropyl alcohol especially if you have sensitive skin. Get the product that works well with you and stick with it. I personally swear by Celeteque Facial Cleansers.

4. Don't put on too many products especially the exfoliating kind. This might inflame your skin so be careful about it.

5. If you have breakouts, don't pinch and squeeze it! It would just cause scar. It would just go away in time.

6. Never sleep with makeup on...

7. Throw out unused makeup. It could cause allergies and break outs. Believe me, I learned this the hard way when I was being so prudent and didn't to throw unused makeup and when I used it my face was so red for a couple of days. Never again!

8. Sleep and sleep!! Its one of the best gifts you can give your skin.

Hubby has a thing about flashlights. I dunno but he has a big collection of flashlights, majority of them he doesn't even use. He really shells out money for his collection coz some of them comes really pricey. I can't believe the variety of flashlights out there. He is particularly fond of key chain and Mini LED flashlights.

He also has night vision, emergency, multi-colored flashlights and he wants to have streamlight flashlights on his collection too. He says flashlights are a necessity, especially for emergencies, streamlight flashlights are really handy.

Whenever he is on his flashlight buying mood, he would really scour shops looking for a unique one. He says a streamlight flashlight should be tough, with bright lights, practical, uses the latest technology, lightweight and should look good too.

I dunno but I guess I just learned to live with this "weirdness". After all, everyone can have a fetish for something. If other people can collect stamps, toy cars, receipts , why can't he collect flashlights?

We see trucks all the time but we rarely give them a passing glance but these ones I found online are really worth giving a second look.. Don't you agree?

Trucks are essentially mobile billboards, and by creating campaigns that draws attention, truck-vertising can be a very successful way not only to catch visual attention, but to create buzz as people share their appreciation for the creativity.

We've been waiting for this day for sometime already. Last Monday was the first day our daughter went to school. She'll be school from 8 am till 4 pm. I've been anticipating having more free time to work on my web projects and make a go at my job hunting plans. You must think it's selfish of me but I've been a stay at home mom for the past five years and I have no regrets with the choice I made.

Kids start to get independent the moment they learn to walk and now she's doing things on her own and slowly learning new things. She's meeting new friends and of course she doesn't need me to be at her beck and call.I proud yet oddly nervous about letting her go. Perhaps this is what you would call "separation anxiety" and lol! she doesn't seem to be suffering from it only me :(.

We've been moving back and forth the Philippines and Phnom Penh and when she turned three we wanted to enroll her in a school in the Philippines but that time, she didn't want to. So we didn't force her coz I don't want her to be traumatized and I want school to be a fun and comforting environment for her, so I ended up teaching her basic pre-school lessons at school and it was a great bonding time for us.

As soon as we came to Phnom Penh last October we have been scouting out possible schools for her. We wanted her to adjust first to the culture here as well as learn some basic language. From the onset we have decided to send her to an international school with a montessori curriculum and has english as medium of instruction (chinks cannot speak khmer language..). We found a school very close to our house but alas! we did not know that the waiting list for these schools are quite long.

A friend of my husbands told us about CAMPHIL International School, a montessori type international school run by Filipino educators and mostly with Filipino teachers. It was a good thing to know that the school is near our house, on the same way to hubby's workplace (so we can save on bus fees haha!), with limited number of students, has a recognized montessori curriculum, homey atmosphere, safe location, and of course, fees were within our budget.

If you have plans of staying here in Phnom Penh and having your kids educated in international schools here, be prepared coz it can be pricey. When I say "international schools" I mean schools with internationally recognized curriculum, with mostly foreign teachers, with English as medium, student population consist of mixed nationalities. There are a lot of schools here labeling themselves "international schools" so do some research first. Tuition expenses, plus miscellaneous, meals, deposits/registration/capital and other fees usually range from $2000 up per year. I find it more expensive than schools in the Philippines but we really don't want to settle for fly-by-night schools, after all education is the most valuable gift we could give our child.

Everything is expensive nowadays and earning money is just not as easy. For most people getting the best value and price really matters. With the economic slowdown, we are all the more aware of this. Like us for instance, before we could buy things on impulse but we rarely do that now. Everything has to be evaluated depending on the value we get from its price.

Some things we have to do without for the time being. Like before I'd regularly visit spa's now I can only do that at least once a month or every two months. Where before, we used to watch movies regularly, we have to make do with DVD's at home. Things like that actually add up to substantial savings.

But there are things that you cannot really scrimp on like school fees etc., insurances like health and auto insurance. Most of these are pricey but what most money-saving people could do is to search for a Low Cost Auto Insurance and comparing different providers so we could get the best deals.

When making big purchases, better canvass, look around first and compare prices before choosing the one that best suits your needs..

A close friend of my husband is going to study in a university somewhere in Boston. Don't ask me the place :), I've never been to US... yet! Anyway, he has been preparing a lot for his post graduate studies and I know it would be a major adjustment for him.

Going abroad for studies is really grueling. Aside from the usual school stuff you have to attend to, you also have to prepare prior to going there. We had been searching online about living in Boston and the communities around it and we found the Avalon communities particularly Lexington apartments looking really top notch.

It's in a premier location, has a great community. Lol! I wish we could stay there someday just for the experience. Hopefully, hubby's friend would have his accommodations settled before he flies out in July.

Candies!!!

Who doesn't like candies? It just reminds me so much of childhood, friends, of comfort, of melt-in-the mouth goodness. Kids and sometimes adults too just can get enough of candies, so its no wonder candies are one of the world's most popular sweet tasting foods. Well, who can resist chocolate bars, jellybeans, lollipops, caramels?

Sugar is the main ingredient in most candies. Other ingredients like honey are added as sweeteners. Many other ingredients can be added to candies to make the flavors and choices literally endless. They could include milk, eggs, flour, nuts, flavorings and fruits.

My daughter was asking me what makes the difference between different kinds of candies. Like how come others are soft, creamy and chewy others are sticky and hard. The answer is how the candy is made.

Lollipops are hard candies and they are made by boiling sugar with corn syrup and water.

Butterscotch and brittles are made with butter or vegetable oil boiled with sugar. Most brittles are made with nuts like peanut brittles, almond brittles etc..

Caramels and toffees are examples of chewy candies and they are made by boiling sugar, milk and vegetable oil.

Chewy gumdrops on the other hand are made with boiling sugar mixed with gelatin or cornstarch.

Puffy candies like marshmallows are made by whipping air into sweet syrups. The air adds volume and makes the cany feel soft and smooth in your mouth.

Of all candies, I think the most popular are chocolates! Chocolate candies are made from cocoa bean. They are mixed with different ingredients like milk, sugar, nuts etc and sold as solid bars, chocolate covered bars..

The simplest candy is COTTON candy. Its simple coz it only has one ingredient - sugar. Sugar is melted in a container with tiny holes and then spun very fast. The whirling action of the container forces the sugar through the holes, making thin threads that melts in the mouth.

Candies are really great treats but we do have to eat it in moderation. It's not so good for the teeth as well as the waist but how come eating it just feels so comforting?
