I was browsing Yahoo News when I came across a news article entitled Getting Paid to Drink. Interesting right? I found it interestingly odd yet endearing.

Its all about Mike Hammond who advertised in his village post office for a drinking companion for his 88-year old father Jack during his regular visits to a southern England pub from a nursing home. He ended up being shifting through lots of applications.

How much is the salary? 7 pounds ($14) per hour plus expenses. Who got the plum job? Hammond decided on job-sharing and divided the work load to a retired doctor and a former military man.

Hammond told Time that his father, Jack would now be going to the pub several times a week, three times with his new drinking buddies, and twice with him.His reason for all this, he says, "I want to give him some of his old life back."

Nice and odd gesture. :P

There are times when we mom's feel the need to do two things or three things at the same time. Since I had a baby I've been wishing there's 30 hours a day and I wish I could be in three places at the same time. I'm not complaining since I love being a mom and wife, but sometimes things can get really hectic and we do have to multi-task.

Tips to get better at multi-tasking:
  • Divide the time. Schedule time for each task and set aside sometime say 15 to 30 minutes for interruptions (phone calls, visitors etc)
  • Take time outs. Blue's Clues puts it this way, STOP, BREATHE and THINK! Take time to catch your breath. Me, I get inspired, creative ideas after I stop to relax.
  • Get help. I highly recommend a helper. Mom's need sometime to ourselves too and if we do all the work, I don't think its possible. I don't like being a hypocrite about it, sure its nice to do everything and say you're completely hands-on but come on, tons of hard work plus kids are hard to juggle and if you don't want to end up looking so "losyang", if you can afford it then get a helper. If you can't, then delegate!
  • Finish each planned task. It will give you a great feeling of satisfaction and will drive you to do more.
  • All your schedules or tasks should be according to your personal rhythm. If you're not a morning person, then don't schedule a lot of task in the morning.

Most people I know are raving about social networking. Social networking communities are changing the way we communicate and even the way we do marketing for our businesses. And why is this so? Social networking sites like 3gb are a great venue for us to connect with long lost friends, get to know new ones, find former co-workers and look for people with the same industry and interests. It's also a great place to promote your site or blogs, and its free.

3Gb community is one of the newest social networking sites. With this community we could easily meet old friends, upload photos in our photo albums, join groups with similar interests, chat with old and new acquaintances in short its a great boost to out online social presence.

I've checked out the site and its very easy to navigate, the page looks clean and uncluttered, and its growing really fast. Their shoutcast is a very nice feature and what I do appreciate is they feature their member newest blog entries on their homepage. The display size of your avatar is really big so it'll really catch attention. So, if you're on the lookout for a new community to explore, then head over to 3Gb community and start sending out those invites.

I woke up really late yesterday and was not in a very good mood. After going to church we decided to do a mall tour :P. Mall of choice, SM SouthMall, then Mall of Asia.

We all didn't have breakfast so we were starving when we got to Southmall, so we all headed over to one of our favorite "you'll-get-really-full" restaurants, Chef d' Angelo. We love eating here coz though its a little bit more expensive than fast foods, well the big servings and taste makes it a good and a worthy buy.

My favorite? Their Chef Samplers, where you can get a bit about everything! I usually choose Sampler 1 where you can have a serving of pizza, pasta with red or white sauce, and a serving of big bird fried chicken all for only P138.. Now that's value for money..

My daughter and I had been nagging Hi-ace to allow us to have a dog. I'm really pleased my Chinks is an animal lover :). She loves birds, cats and specially dogs. We're both dog lovers and we keep wanting to have one. Hi-ace has been hesitant to allow us to have pet since we travel a lot and usually away during weekends and since we are busy folks where would we leave our pet. He doesn't like leaving pets with neighbors, so we didn't push with our pet plans.

Now that we're moving back to Phnom Penh soon, Chinks and I are so excited because when we're there already we won't be traveling much so we can have a dog! Yahoo! Now were just deciding what kind of dog we want to have. Chinks wants a Corgi and I prefer a Schnauzer. Maybe we should get both hmmnn..

Both dogs are small and excellent pets for kids. Corgis are smaller and they make excellent family dogs. These dogs have short stocky build and could grow around 25 pounds. Corgi's love to run and play, so they also work well with active children. Chinks likes corgis since she's so active, loves running around and she says its so cuddly.

On the other hand, I want a schnauzer since its a good pet for a kid of any age. They are smart, affectionate and tolerant. They require a small amount of exercise and grooming, but are otherwise low maintenance. I find their longish fur adorable.

Which should we choose? I think we'll just have both? It would be fun!

There are times when I do impulsive shopping, mostly on clothes, bags, shoes, and some small items. But when it comes to appliances, furniture, home decor and other pricey purchases I'd rather browse around first and get as much information on choices that are available for me.

I love browsing stores and recently I'm getting hooked with internet browsing. With information you can get on the world wide web, its quiet easy to look around and make your choices. There are a lot of sites offering ratings of products to help us decide. One particular website that I particular find interesting is the www.wize.com offers a great way to narrow down your choices with reviews and product ratings like camera and camcorders reviews, vacuum reviews, home and garden product reviews and more.

Sometimes, we need to purchase that we don't have much knowledge about but with the help of product reviews and ratings like vacuum reviews, electronics, reviews on computers and office products or other products which are technical (I like gadgets but don't know much about choosing them ), you can have a grasp of how the products function, and if others who bought it are raving about it or not.

It can also save us time because these sites categorize products, so if you're looking for a handheld vacuum or one with strong suction, they are already sorted out under vacuum reviews. Saves us the time by narrowing down our choices and we can find out from real people how they feel about our particular product choice.

I was in a really bad mood today. Last night I slept real late because for some reason sleep just eluded me. Saturday is our laundry and kitchen cleaning day, so I had to wake up early. The moment I looked in the mirror I was thinking "what a bummer, I look exactly like a zombie!".

Managed to do the laundry at around 10 am and the stains in my brother's clothes made me irritated. I hate stains its just make life so much harder for a busy mom like me. My brother stays with us and he just started working for a cellphone company last January. He usually arrives home late and tired so I'd just do his laundry for him (I know I still treat him like a baby, he's a couple of years younger than me).

I thought the day couldn't get worse when I noticed our refrigerator is not working properly. It's not freezing well and just chilling. I had to get someone to have it checked and the verdict, we have to get a new one. Fine! So, I'm thinking positively, at least I could go shopping for a new one, huh!

Good thing Hi-ace noticed my mood he bought me a pint of Double Dutch ice cream. I feel so much better now.. He certainly knows me well :)

Tried several diet programs? I've done that already. Tried and for awhile it looks like I would be succeeding, then blah, I'll gain it all back after a while. Since I gave birth to my daughter five years ago, I've been struggling to loose extra pounds and inches. I didn't realize I should focus more on making real changes in my eating and exercise habits to help me lose weight and keep it off.

I came across these tips a few months back and I followed it to heart. Now I'm steadily losing weight and could now fit into some of my pre-pregnancy clothes.
  • There is no miracle diet. The only way to lose weight is to eat less and exercise more. The real miracle of weight loss lies in the fact that when you burn off more calories than you consume, you will lose weight. Successful weight loss is all about eating fewer calories and expending more energy.
  • Drink lots of water. Note that this tip does not advise you to drink plenty of liquids. You need to drink at least eight to twelve glasses of water every day. Your body needs water to function efficiently. This is true for people who simply want to be healthy and hydrated, as well as those who want to lose weight. When you're trying to lose weight, drinking a sufficient amount of water can keep you feeling full throughout the day. Many times people feel hungry when they are actually thirsty, and end up eating a high fat snack when a glass of healthy and calorie free water is really what they need. Additionally, drinking a sufficient quantity of water can keep you from retaining excess water weight.
  • Don't starve yourself. It is very important to eat when you want to lose weight. Your body needs food to survive. If you don't eat often enough, or if you don't consume a sufficient quantity of food, your body's metabolism will go into a defensive mode and slow down. This means that when you don't eat enough food to keep your metabolism running, you'll actually burn off fewer calories than when you eat a sufficient quantity of food.
  • Sit down when you eat. When you constantly eat on the run, you'll find yourself gobbling down your meals very quickly. This is very bad for your digestion, and can also wreak havoc on your diet goals. If takes your brain about twenty minutes to feel full once you start eating. If you gobble down a meal in five or ten minutes, even if you ate enough food, you'll still feel hungry. This can cause you to seek out more food that your body doesn't really need. When you sit down to enjoy a meal, you're likely to eat more slowly, which generally leads to the consumption of fewer calories.
  • Exercise regularly. There are numerous exercise benefits, both for weight loss and for good overall health. It is difficult, if not impossible, for many people to lose weight without exercising. One of the many benefits of exercise is that getting in better shape can actually boost your metabolism so that your body will burn calories more efficiently even when it's at rest. Twenty minutes a day for three or four days per week is a good starting point for those just beginning a diet and exercise program. Many people start out walking, while others enjoy bicycling, swimming, or attending exercise classes. To enjoy the benefits of exercise for weight loss, simply pick an activity that you will enjoy or find relaxing, and stick with it. Before you know it, your increased activity will become a habit and you'll start to notice the benefits in how your body looks and feels.

Most of us could not afford an interior designer but if you are on a budget try doing it on your own. After all its your home so you're the best person to choose what bedroom furniture, or kitchen furnishings you want to have.

I'm not an interior designer nor am I an expert decorator, but I'm addicted to decorating magazines,I religiously watch home and garden channels, I fix up my home and my parents home whenever I have the decorating itch and of course if I have a little extra budget.

Here's some pointers for beginning an interior design project on your own:

  • Get informed. Gather as much resource and materials as you can before you start. Watch decorating shows on home and garden channels (they are great since most of these shows are anchored by professional designers).Magazines and internet are a great sources of ideas on lifestyle solutions. Write down ideas that you like, photocopy magazines if you want.
  • Think about the theme and the room you will be decorating. Will it match the purpose of the room? I'm never the one for pristine and super-organized living area since I have a child at home and I feel that guests in my home would feel uncomfortable if the living room furniture arrangement looks like its straight out of a magazine cover. A living room is the social area in your home and not a museum.
  • Get the input of your family members specially the one's who will be using the room. When I fixed up my sister's room, I had to do away with the color green, since she loathes green.
  • Keep an open mind. Some decor you see in a magazine or a website may look blah, but it may match the theme you have in mind.
  • When you have decided and its time to go shopping, take the time to check out the fabrics and colors.
  • And lastly, loosen up and enjoy the process. When you're relaxed more ideas will come to mind. It's ok to make mistakes :P. I once painted parents room a super bright yellow haha I could still remember her reaction when she got home. In the end, I had to have it repainted in a mellower tone.

No. Jet Li and Jackie Chan didn't have "ube" (taro) in their latest movie. This is what I've been doing yesterday.

I haven't been able to do much online this weekend. Missed entrecard dropping and I have several post drafts waiting for me to finish. I have a good reason :P I was experimenting on how to make Jalea de Ube from the recipe I got from my mom. I finally did it and its just so yummy. Love eating it with bread and with halo-halo.

I was feeling really full, so I dragged Hi-ace to watch Forbidden Kingdom. We watched the last full show but surprisingly there were a lot of people there. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, but then I must be biased, I'm a Jet Li fanatic. Up to know I still don't know why I am so enamored by Jet Li. I've practically watched all of his movie, even if I barely understood most of them. Hi-ace says it's probably because Jet Li looks a bit like him..Hahaha!

Now where was I? The movie is the first onscreen team-up of the two martial arts superstars Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Its about A 21st Century American teenager takes a spellbinding, dangerous journey into martial arts legend in the new action/adventure epic Forbidden Kingdom. The movie was shot around the Gobi Dessert in China.

Jason, (a kung fu fanatic played by Michael Angarano - “24”, “Will and Grace,” Lords of Dogtown, Seabiscuit) makes an extraordinary discovery that sends him hurtling back in time to ancient China. There, Jason is charged with a monumental task: he must free the fabled warrior the Monkey King, who has been imprisoned by the evil Jade Warlord. Jason is joined in his quest by wise kung fu master Lu Yan (Jackie Chan) and a band of misfit warriors including Silent Monk (Jet Li). But only by learning the true precepts of kung fu can Jason hope to succeed - and find a way to get back home.

Choreography is superb, Wo Ping delivers as expected. Visual effects were also well done. Story line reminds me a bit of Karate Kid, but with that exotic oriental dash, and I really like Jackie Chan's comedic timing. Li BingBing, as the white-haired witch caught my attention, love her moves and the way they played up her eyes. Michael Angarano is forgettable, I wasn't very impressed and he seemed out of place like he doesn't have the right touch to be the "legendary seeker".

I wouldn't put this film in the same category as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, but its worth watching. Truly entertaining and great for kids too.

Hi-ace (hubby has a new nickname..) and I have this stress reliever routine. We choose random numbers, buy ourselves one lotto ticket each week, then dream about what we'd do if we won the jackpot. Hi-ace being a "kuripot",business-minded person, says he'd buy a franchise of a fast food chain, get a really good health insurance coverage for both of us, trust fund for our daughter, buy a vacation house in Sihanoukville in Cambodia, go to Hawaii via Princess Cruises and he's gonna give me a nice amount of money for me to go shopping till I literally drop.

I do like his list.. hmm especially the last one where I could shop till I drop. My list includes a house somewhere near Manila but not in Manila, trust fund for our daughter, something for my parents, low-risk investments , health and accident insurance, travel, travel, travel. I'm now hankering to visit the Mayan ruins in Mexico. I've always been fascinated with Mayan culture and their ruins. I love ruins and anything related to archeology while Hi-ace is a beach fanatic. Royal Caribbean cruises can let us experience both.

And if we have a little extra we'll have an Alaskan adventure via Norwegian Cruise Line. :P It's been good to dream and plan things you want to do. It actually inspires us to work well, save and live the life we want to have. With both us being travel-crazy, even our daughter is beginning to show signs of having itchy feet, that cruising dream wouldn't be far from reality.

It's summer and that means going to the beach for most people. I love summertime, I love beaches and I get so frustrated in choosing the right swimwear. Beaches are just five minutes walk away from my family home in the province and going to the beach is an almost daily habit for me.

Aside from being tanned, swimming is one of the greatest form of exercise and strengthens the lungs - an advantage to an asthmatic person like me.

Picking the right swimsuit that looks great and well enhances a "not so perfect" figure is a must. Why is that so? If you use the right swimwear that will disguise and hide your hated/problem body areas and accentuate your body's positive features, then you'll have more confidence to strut your stuff in beaches.

I don't have the perfect body and for years I've been dreaming of having one. I've finally realized that I have to live with the body I have and learn how to choose the swimwear I can wear with confidence. I've learned that
one piece swimsuits will de-emphasize the stomach area, so if you wear one piece, a tummy with a bit of bulge will be concealed. This is also perfect if you don't like revealing too much skin and its really functional too.

Colors can be used too to accentuate or emphasize your positive features. Black is great for slimming look and bright colors generally are slimming as well as great highlighter for your tan.

Tankinis are also a personal favorite. If your figure is a bit short or if like me even on my "thin" days I still don't have much of a small waist to speak of, then wear a tankini. It gives an appearance of having a slender waist. And lastly, I love sarongs! They are great flaw concealer and adds a more tropical touch to your beach attire.

I've mentioned in my previous post that my mom is really into gardening. She's all smiles when I told her I want to blog about her beloved plants. My dad has been retired for more than a decade already and my mom just retired three years ago. Both of them have a passion for gardening so that's what they have been doing since retiring.

My siblings love it because both of them can get lots of exercise and sunshine while they pursue this hobby. Having a beautiful outdoor garden is an added bonus. I love to garden too though I'm not so passionate about it.. yet. Another thing my mom really likes is shopping for the right planters. She has a lot of plants that she'd like to have outdoors and bring indoors depending on her whim or if she wants to change the look of the living area and the patio. For her favorite indoor and outdoor plants she'd of course choose decorative planters to match the house interiors. She keep saying the plant itself is attractive but add a matching decorative planter will make it more stunning.

Her next project is to get some window box planters which should be about half meter above the ground because she's now complaining that chickens keep scratching out her plants. See the photo? Those that are newly planted has to be surrounded by short fences and nets to keep out the chickens.

Sigh! I want to be like her when I'm old. It's simply lovely looking at her garden...And she says it provides a great setting when she's reading romance paperback novels..Lol! Seriously, Mom keeps saying your garden should be your sanctuary. It should speak about the things you love. Choose the plants you like, the colors you love, add up a special seating area where you can relax and think about the day..

Trip to Bicol by car or aircon bus would take around 10 to 1 2hours of travel. A few days ago we decided to take the night trip, meaning we were on the road instead of being asleep and when I'm on travel I rarely get to sleep a wink. It's really frustrating, even if I take some sleeping tablets I would still force myself to sleep.

12 hours of no sleep equates to eye bags for me. My mom said I looked exactly like a zombie when we arrived in Bicol. If I don't get enough sleep, it really shows since I've been cursed with easy to turn to racoon eyes!

I've been reading a lot and bugging my cousin ( a makeup artist/stylist) on what do I do about my under-eye circles. Here's the tips I've gathered around.

  • Get enough sleep. At least 8 hours of sleep will do wonders in getting that refreshed look.
  • Soak two green tea bags in cool water and place over eyes for five minutes. The caffeine and antioxidants help reduce puffiness
  • Do a regular facial exercise to improve blood circulation.
  • Use eye creams that contain Vitamin K which helps with bruising and can minimize those dark circles.
  • Protect the skin area under your eyes with sunscreen and moisturizes with SPF.
  • Moisturize, moisturize, and moisturize! Dull and dry skin can make the eye bags standout.
  • Use concealer in a shade close to your natural color or one shade lighter.
  • Consult a doctor. Your dark circles might be caused by some allergies.
  • Don't use mascara and liner on the lower lid since it will only darken and accentuate your eye bags.
  • Don't use a very light concealer, this will make under-eye circles brown or grayish.
  • Avoid using brown shade of eyeshadows and liners since this colors enhance dark circles.
Now, I really SHOULD get some SLEEP! :) Good night..

For the past two years I've been running a home-based fashion accessories business and a lot of my clients were from online ads and from my website. The form of payment I had for my business was just bank deposits and cash on delivery. A good friend had been advising me to get myself a merchant account so I'll be able to accept payment so my products and services will be made available not just within the Philippines but to clients from other countries as well. I realized that there are a lot of people not comfortable or finds bank deposit as payment option, inconvenient. Banks usually charge a transaction fee if the deposit is from another place and that is one thing that would discourage a potential buyer.

Having a merchant account which allows you to accept credit card payments is extremely valuable to a home-based business, not to mention allowing you to accept payments in a more professional manner.

More and more people now are using credit card as their means of payment. And since internet and e-commerce is now a fast growing industry, using credit card is more convenient for an increasing number of people. It offers a lot of advantages, most notably the speed of transaction. Using a credit card also enables people from far corners of the world to transact business with businesses on the other side of the word. Its fast and convenient

Not having this facility early on is one of the things I regret since I've now realized having a merchant account for home business or a credit card machine if you have a shop, is an added advantage for both business and clients. Sadly, I have already decided to stop my home-business since we'll be moving out of the country soon. But if I ever decided to start a home-based business again, getting a merchant account would be one priority.

I just got back and I feel refreshed and a bit sad. It's always sad when you leave your parents house and besides my daughter and her grandma decided to spend more time together (excluding me), so she's staying with my folks for a few more days :(.

While I was there my mom was busy as always on her newly renovated kitchen. For someone who rarely cooks, I am simply amazed at how she can be so obsessed with fixing her kitchen cabinets, tiles, kitchen tools etc. She's always complaining she doesn't have enough storage for her kitchen appliances, dinnerwares. Dad is now saying if she ever decides to start a catering business, it would be great so she can make use of her collection.

The living room, she doesn't mind it much since she says she prefers it to be simple and uncluttered as it is, so what gets her attention now is the kitchen and the garden. We have a small "kubo" (hut) in the garden and that's her next project : make the "kubo" look more tropical and put some flowers and ferns around it. She's has already started now and been planting these ferns..

Home is the extension of your personality and lifestyle and it is where you relax and attend to small details of your life. Mom frequently tells me a home should be furnished with ease, attractiveness and functionality in mind. I agree with her, though unlike her I'm nowhere near being obsessive about collecting home furnishings and decor, I still want to make my home attractively furnished.

When furnishing a house, my mom recommends: (1) doing a lot of window-shopping first, check out catalogs and online resources (2) choose your style (3) your furnishing should match your lifestyle (4) check room measurements, furniture arrangements etc, (4) choose colors that can be easily matched and fabrics that will last long (5) choose the one's you can afford (6) don't buy it all at once.. take your time :)

so excited! Why is it that I go home to my hometown every 3 months or so yet I still feel so giddy with excitement whenever I go? I guess there's some truth with the saying, "There is no place like home."

I'll be going home for a couple of days to spend sometime with my parents and this is a treat to myself since I haven't been back there since December.

I have loads of things to do there... go to the beach and fry ( I mean tan) myself till I turn the color of litson (roasted pig :P), eat my dad's homecooked meals, my father happens to be a very good cook and my mom, well she's great at cooking rice haha they are truly matched..

I have to buy some native slippers, the ones made of abaca fiber, hubby likes using them around the house.. I think coz its so comfy and durable. I have to visit some college friends, do some shopping..This might sound crazy but I do miss the small departments stores there :)

And oh! Its Aki's birthday on Sunday and were having a small party.. Aki loves having her birthday there, her lola allows her to pig out on as much ice cream as she can.

I might not be able to update this blog much when I'm there, haha I'll be too busy being busy I think but I'll be posting pics once I get back next week.. Ciao!

Sending flowers is one of the most thoughtful and unforgettable gesture a person can make. On the receivers end, it's always a pleasure to be given a gift of beauty - flowers.

One doesn't need to wait for a special occasion to give flowers to persons you'd like share happiness and cheer with. We commonly send flowers when a person is sick, receiving flowers will be great in reviving the spirits of those who had been sick.

A flower delivery can also express our appreciation for a thoughtful gift we have received from a friend or an acquaintance. A bouquet with a "Thank You!" notecard is a great in showing acknowledgment of a gift or a nice gesture. Showing someone your love, appreciation, your congratulations and a whole lot of other feelings thru flower delivery is now an easy to do.

Everything now is built and run to our convenience and that includes ordering and sending flower arrangements online. I ran across this website offering flower delivery services online. You can actually browse and shop online and its a breeze since they have categorized their products by occasion ( like birthdays, love, get-well, congratulations etc.), by product (type of flower) and by price.. They also have an add-on option, so if you feel extra generous, then add in a small stuffed toy and a box of chocolate. You also have the option to upgrade the floral arrangement into a more spectacular one with more blooms and higher-quality flower varieties at only a small price increment.

Giving flowers is a matter of timing, inventiveness and sensitivity. Be aware of the receivers wants and mood. Make sure your gift of flower is one that is extra-ordinary and an unforgettable gesture.
Flower delivery... send smiles to those who made you smile.

Looking for bargain items is a good shopping habit, but before you splurge out do check out item on sale so your money can get good value.

On Food:

> Check the items expiration date.
> Check for damaged packaging.
> Be on the lookout for products with rotten smell, slimy feel, discoloration, molds etc.
> Refrain from purchasing cans that appear misshapen or bent or bloated.
> Perishable products have higher moisture content than other foods, and this makes them ideal breeding grounds for bacteria and more susceptible to contamination.
> Cook or use these perishables as soon as possible.

On Medication:

> Beware of fake drugs.
> Check if packaging is tampered or broken in any way.

On Clothing:

> Watch out for uneven stitching since these are prone to small holes when used or stretched.
> Cotto, linen, and rayon are particularly known to shrink or expand, while silk, cotton and linen may discolor or bleed.
> Interfacings and linings should be supportive, fastened securely and should not wrinkle the outer fabric.
> Stitching should be secure and have no loose ends.
> Make sure that accessories are sewn securely and zippers zip smoothly.
> Keep the receipt in case you want to return items.

On Cosmetics:

> Foundation and wand-applied cosmetics like lipsticks and mascaras should not have uncharacteristically clumpy or cake-like textures. these are the signs that the items has passed its expiry date.
> Eye makeup should never contain any kohl- a color additive often used to enhance the eye's appearance. It contains salts of heavy metals, such as antimony and lead, and is not approved for cosmetic use. A kohl colored item, however, is just fine.
> Makeup brushes should be soft and full, they should feel smooth.
> Test them first to see if it matches your skin and wouldn't cause irritations and if the product blends with your skin.

On Shoes:

> Try it on. If it feels stiff and its shape doesn't really fit the contour of your feet, don't buy it.
> Shoes of poor quality can cause pains and calluses and don't last long.
> Stick to sturdy shoes without too many glued embellishments.
> Go for leather, it lasts longer and allows your feet to breathe.

On Jewelry:

> Check the metal used - if its too flimsy, it will break easily.
> If you're prone to skin allergies, be careful about buying pieces made of metal.
> If the jewelry feels rough and has add-ons and extra pieces jutting out of the design, it can often snag and damage clothing.

It's summertime and I surely miss going to the beach.. I simply don't have the time to go! Whenever I go to Boracay, I love getting my henna tatoo.. I think its fun and looks sexy too..:P Here's some trivia I dug up from somewhere about tatoos and its origins.. Whether they are on arms, legs, ankles or buttocks, tattoos are painted all over our bodies by injecting ink into our skin.
A needle attached to a hand-held tool injects ink into the cells of the dermis-a section of our skin that keeps tattoos from fading and stretching. The tool moves the needle up and down at a rate of several hundred vibrations per minute and penetrates the skin by about one millimeter. The ink that is left in the skin after the injection process is the tattoo.
Decorating our bodies with tattoos is a popular fad among many people.
The word, tattoo originates from the Tahitian word tattau, which means "to mark" and was first mentioned in explorer James Cook's records from his 1769 expedition to the South Pacific. However, some scientists believe that the earliest known evidence of tattooing dates back to markings found on the skin of the Iceman, a mummified human body that dates as far back as 3300 B.C.
More widely recognized are tattoos found on Egyptian and Nubian mummies dating from about 2000 B.C. Classical authors mention the use of tattoos in connection with Greeks, ancient Germans, Gauls, Thracians and ancient Britons.
Tattooing was rediscovered by Europeans when they came into contact with Polynesians and American Indians through their explorations. Because tattoos were considered so exotic in European and U.S. societies, tattooed Indians and Polynesians amazed crowds at circuses and fairs during the 18th and 19th centuries.
The practice of tattooing has different meanings to various cultures. Decoration was the most common motive for tattooing and that still holds true today.
In some cultures, tattoos served as identification of the wearer's rank or status within a group. For instance, the early Romans tattooed slaves and criminals. Tahitian tattoos served as rites of passage, telling the history of the wearer's life.

I've had this blog for about five months now yet it was only last month that I've actually started to make money out of it. For some reasons I was wary of some get paid for blogging offers. As a newbie it is really difficult to choose who among these blog advertising companies are true and not scams.

I chose Smorty first among others since I have a read a lot of good feedback from others about their get paid for blogging services. Before sending over my online application I checked first if my blog reaches their criteria:
  • Blog must be indexed by search engines;
  • At least more than 3 months old;
  • must not contain any violent, hate related or adult content;
  • must be active and have a history of minimum average 2 new posts per week.
To my surprise it was easy to join and their approval was fast enough. Once I was approved I was eager to start off, and managing your get paid for blogging account is a breeze. I like their user interface where its easy to see where you need to go. On the left sidebar you can see your performance (posts taken, posts approved etc) and your earnings. In the middle you can read the most recent announcements, quick links to new opportunities, your account, referral program and payment history. On the right sidebar you get to view the highest earners in blog advertising, which serves as my inspiration.. ( wish I could earn as much as those top earners :P)

Another thing I love about Smorty is the presence of a very active forum. From here you can get loads of tips not only on blogging for money, but also on things like link exchanges, meeting other bloggers, boosting your page ranking etc.

You can also add up to 10 blogs under your account and this allows you to increase your earnings since you can have more venue to write reviews. As for their payment method, they are prompt and pay mostly on a weekly basis.

If you're looking for ways to increase your blogging income by writing posts, then Smorty is one blog advertising company I would recommend.

For a time I worked as a client processing executive in a bank and a credit card company. I was assigned to the section where you process client inquiries, process requests and majority of our clients are those with bad credit credit card history. Everyday I get to interact with people who find themselves with bad credit. A lot attribute their situations on personal and relationship problems like divorce, some also from being laid off from work, some because of medical expenses, and a lot also is because of poor spending habits, meaning, they usually spend beyond what they earn.

Of those people I have worked with I tried my best to make them understand that building a good credit history is essential to anyone who expects to make major purchases, rent an apartment or start a business. This is not impossible, and for some it is easy to do. It requires a lot of self-control and learning to pay attention to expenses.

If you are already in this situation, then you can start making repairs to your bad credit history. Its a must if you intend to regain your consumer buying power. To begin this task, do some homework and look for banks/lending institutions which offers bad credit loans and bad credit credit cards to help you rebuild your credit. There are still a lot of institutions even online resources that are there to help rebuild your good credit standing.

Once you're on the right path, keep in mind to keep your charges to what you can afford to pay monthly. It's really great if you can make full payments monthly, that way you avoid interests and a great boost for your credit scoring.

Our house doesn't have a mailbox! It doesn't even have an address plaque.. which makes it harder for the mailman to deliver our mails and bills. A couple of times it actually ended up a few blocks from our house or in our neighbors mailbox.

It was my 5-year old daughter who actually pointed it out to me. She was so charmed with a mailbox she usually passes by near the village playground. She kept on saying, Mom, we need to get a mailbox like that! It was actually cute and looked more like a birdhouse than a residential mailbox. I'm inclined to agree with her. Though these times its not often we get really handwritten letters and what we would usually found sitting on our mailboxes are bills and more bills, it would still be neat to have one.

A mailbox I think is more than just a piece of furniture waiting and sweltering out under the sun, outside your house. It can be an expression of your own personality, a showcase of your decorating skills and your personal style. If I were to get one, I'd choose one which shows a lot of individuality and spunk. It should really stand out and tell a little about myself. Oh, and I shouldn't forget including the right address plaque to guide those wayward bills right? I think that will be my next home improvement project.

I love Divisoria! It's the mother of all bargain places.. Some even go far as to say that "If you can't find it in Divisoria, it doesn't exist at all!" Haha, I think that is probably true.. You can buy almost anything here at bargain prices. But do check out the goods first before buying it!
Note: This place is really crowded, take care of your belongings, prepare to sweat and bring along a shopping bag to put together your purchases.
My best finds in there?

  • if you're crafty and likes to make creative projects by yourself, Tabora St. is a must-visit! The street is breeming with stores with beads, ribbons, lace, party giveaways and more.

  • On Tabora St., check out also the stores selling wholesale fashion accessories, wallets and lots of other trinkets..Found in one of these stores 8 pcs coin purse for only P120! That's only P15 each and its of good quality..

  • Cloth per meter/yard is the cheapest here. I love buying curtains and cotton clothes for sewing into nice pillowcases, bedsheets. And its so much more cheaper than buying ready-made one's from the malls. Although if you're looking for ready-made bedsheets and pillowcases, you can find some in Divi too for about P150, you can get a queen sized cotton bedsheet!

  • I buy dishwashing liquid (P25/bottle), toilet paper (P80/20 rolls) in 168 or Divisoria Mall.

  • If you're planning a party, visit Divisoria Mall and the mall at the back of it (forgot the name..). This one is your one-stop party accessories shop! Don't bring your kid here though, their eyes might fall out of their sockets with the toys they'll see here and your pockets in real danger.

  • Vegetables and fruits are real steals here too.

  • Of course, when you're indulging yourself with a little retail therapy, it should end with a hearty meal! Try Pancit Guisado @ the Foodcourt of 168! Get one big plate more than enough for 4 persons for only P60 with free pandesal bread on the side..Yummy!

Most of the time I find myself in a bind on what to write next or I'm just plain lazy to think about what would make a good post. It helps to take a shower, or take a short walk, but I really envy those who have the gift of writing a creative story.

Gifted or not, I really believe that those with lesser talents for writing can still cultivate a right attitude towards writing and with this can still come up with good writing. Here are some tips I found on e-how to help generate creative writing ideas.

  1. Find characters in your everyday life. Create a character profile on them and keep these profiles on file. Come up with a different name, place of birth, physical description, life experiences that shaped their behavior, demeanor, talents, weaknesses, careers, hobbies, idiosyncrasies, problems and whatever else you can think of. You never know when you'll need to dip into your character file. Creating a character profile can generate a great story idea. ( I have yet to try this though people around me prefers to be anonymous haha! I could probably use aliases for them..)
  2. Go to a restaurant, bar, mall, or park and watch people. Listen discretely to their conversations and create stories behind the snippets that you hear. This method can generate many situations and story lines if you let your imagination run wild. (Hmm, good idea though it would take a bit of time and you have to perfect the art of eavesdropping Lol!)
  3. Do some writing exercises to get your creative juices flowing. You can also find some writing exercises in books on any given subject. ( I bet moms will be good at this, I mean I had to tell my daughter the story of Snow White, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk etc in at least 20 versions..)
  4. Check your local paper and the Internet to find an interesting news report. Write a story about it but put a twist on the characters and events. You can also just look at the photograph in the news and come up with your own story. (this one's nice and easy..)
  5. Brainstorm to come up with a problem that needs to be solved. Play with it to come up with solutions and characters that could be involved in the situation. (I love throwing ideas around with my hubby! It's really great if there is someone around to criticize or help you out with your ideas..)
  6. Take a creative writing course or find a group of people to write with. Writing assignments can give you a start to write about something you've never thought about before. Brainstorming in groups is also a great way to generate new ideas. (Find friends with similar passion for writing, in school, online forums..)
  7. Keep a file on your short stories or ideas either on your computer or in a notebook. Carry a notebook everywhere you go and write down things you think of immediately. You may think you'll never forget this wonderful idea you've thought of, but before you know it it'll be gone. (I've been doing this since last year and it really works. I always carry around a small notebook and take note of "sudden inspirations", ideas, to do's etc! - though be organized, the first time I tried this I could barely understand my notes ^_^).
