Getting a Merchant Account for Home Business

For the past two years I've been running a home-based fashion accessories business and a lot of my clients were from online ads and from my website. The form of payment I had for my business was just bank deposits and cash on delivery. A good friend had been advising me to get myself a merchant account so I'll be able to accept payment so my products and services will be made available not just within the Philippines but to clients from other countries as well. I realized that there are a lot of people not comfortable or finds bank deposit as payment option, inconvenient. Banks usually charge a transaction fee if the deposit is from another place and that is one thing that would discourage a potential buyer.

Having a merchant account which allows you to accept credit card payments is extremely valuable to a home-based business, not to mention allowing you to accept payments in a more professional manner.

More and more people now are using credit card as their means of payment. And since internet and e-commerce is now a fast growing industry, using credit card is more convenient for an increasing number of people. It offers a lot of advantages, most notably the speed of transaction. Using a credit card also enables people from far corners of the world to transact business with businesses on the other side of the word. Its fast and convenient

Not having this facility early on is one of the things I regret since I've now realized having a merchant account for home business or a credit card machine if you have a shop, is an added advantage for both business and clients. Sadly, I have already decided to stop my home-business since we'll be moving out of the country soon. But if I ever decided to start a home-based business again, getting a merchant account would be one priority.

One great thing about not having a merchant account, is that sometimes when you sign up for services they will throw in a free credit card terminal as an incentive to get you to sign a contract. These can be a big expense saver and can really make a difference.
