Saving Money Today

Saving money is not as simple as a lot of people think. From my experience it requires determination and creativity to make it. Almost all things now are expensive so its doubly hard for most moms to achieve a healthy savings account balance.

Here's some creative ways of saving money I've learned from other moms:
  • When you are in grocery, buy only what is necessary. This is very difficult to do but a friend of mine suggest going to grocery with a ready list to avoid getting stuff you don't actually need.
  • If you have extra time then do some part time work or start a business. This worked for me. I turned my jewelry making hobby into a business and the income from that was a big boost for my savings.
  • Little things can actually add up to big things. You might want to control your daily Starbucks latte and make it just once a week. If you regularly have lunch in fast foods or office cafeterias then try packing your own lunch! This could save you a lot and you also can make a healthier food choice if you make your own lunch.
  • Regulate your use of utilities like electricity, water, telephone, internet.. Be creative in how you can save your daily consumption.
  • Determine a reasonable spending budget before you set a savings amount goal. If you actually spend less than your budget then add that amount to your savings instead of going shopping.
  • Make a firm commitment to save a set amount each payday. That way it is easier to reach your saving goals. Be diligent and patient, it will take sometime for your savings to grow.
  • Live below your means. It does not mean you have to live like a pauper, you just need to lessen those expenses. Example if you want to buy a BMW there are less expensive alternatives to that right? Or if you are taking a three week holiday, why not shorten it to just 10 days or two weeks?
  • Choose a savings account that would cater or fit your needs. There are local banks and there are also online savings accounts or certificate of deposit (CD) and these could help you out in achieving your saving goals.
