Aromatheraphy Oils

I want to have my house smelling good.. But I dont like the smell of regular deodorizers or sprays, so I've decided on using candles, essential oils, and potpourri. Typically me, I embarked on a thorough research on home fragrances, essential oils and their effects on our mind as well as their skin health benefits. Here's what I found so far...

Add a few drops of essential oil to water for burning and spritzing around the house.

  • LAVENDER - relieves headaches, stress, insomnia, minor burns, skin rashes, lowers blood pressure. Calmative. Basil Essential Oil- Anti bacterial, headaches, mental alertness, fatigue, stress, Period pains (Blends well with lemon and fennel).
  • LEMON - Cellulite, oily skin, anti bacterial, asthma and other respiratory complaints, refreshes and stimulates the mind.
  • SANDALWOOD- Calms the mind and spirit, oily skin, soothes irritated skin, and is an aphrodisiac for men. (Blends well with lavender and sandalwood).
  • SPEARMINT - Soothes the skin, calming, and settles upset tummies.
  • LEMON GRASS - Skin toner, oily skin, fatigue, muscle aches and gastric infections. Stimulates, energizes and relieves stress related conditions and nervous exhaustion-(Blends well with tea tree and lavender)
  • BASIL - clears the mind of worries, help you focus and concentrate and uplifts people who suffer from depression and stress.
  • BERGAMOT - fruit that resembles a miniature. The oil is extracted from its peel or rind. It is uplifting and cheerful, reduces anger, frustration, anxiety and stress;
  • CHAMOMILE - relaxes and relieves and anxiety, tension and insomnia. This is good for hyperactive children, the frail and the elderly.
  • EUCALYPTUS - clears the head and calms emotions.
  • FRANKINCENSE - comforting, warming and relaxing. Burn a few drops with water during meditation to help focus the mind. It is aromatically balancing and produces a sense of calm.
  • JASMINE - improves self-confidence. It relaxes, soothes and uplifts.
  • LIME - uplifting and ideal for tired minds. It is stimulating and activating, especially where there is apathy, anxiety or depression.
  • MANDARIN - the only oil considered safe for use after the first trimester of pregnancy. It is refreshing, happy, soothing and relaxing.
  • MYRRH - stimulates and revives. it relieves apathy, lack of motivation and lethargy.

Tidbits:

  • to encourage romance - use jasmine, neroli, orange, rose, sandalwood or ylang-ylang essential oils.
  • burners should be deep and bowl-like at the top for the best results.
  • try a few drops of lavender on your pillow to ensure a good night sleep.
  • essential oils are a bit pricey so if on tight budget, try incense sticks.

I'm currently using CHAMOMILE scents for the bedrooms and its really so soothing...MANDARIN ESSENTIAL OIL for the living room!

I love burning essential oils and use lavender and sandalwood all the time. Much better than sprays and deodorizers.
