Found this really cool new design featured at YankoDesign. It's a fruit storage and a planter in one, called the Cocoon. I love having indoor plants and having one planter double as a fruit display and storage would definitely seal the deal for me. I want this. Really.

You can store spices and fruits, allowing you both color and life in the kitchen without taking up space on your tiny counters. Cocoon is made of a clay that’s able to absorb water from cultivation, and when it evaporates, the storage is cooled.

I love wood furniture, in modern, minimalist designs. I find wood carvings beautiful but its something I just want to look at but not have in my home. Coz I find wood furniture with carvings so hard to clean. I spent a lot of time when I was growing up helping my parents do chores around the house, and since my dad is a wood carving fan, well, it was like a torture for me just dusting those tiny nooks and crevices. So when we were buying our own furniture, I stuck to clean, sleek lines.

Extra care must be taken when cleaning up wood furniture. The wood is what makes it standout and beautiful and when cleaning it, the age, type of wood and its condition must be considered.

What are the things you must look out for? And some tips you'll find helpful.

  • Majority of the dirt are only on the surface, like fingerprints, dust etc.
  • If it got wet, you'll see a white or pale spot on the polish;
  • But if the liquid has already penetrated the wood then, it shows a darker stain.
  • Scratches and other deeper than surface damage would require re-finishing and can't be remedied by just cleaning it up.
  • Before choosing your cleaning solution/agent, check first what would work for your type of wood. Also read labels on your cleaning products.

Hubby and I has been planning out home renovation for awhile now. I've been busy sketching out a floor plan and some things that would be added are a few more rooms, a home office, a bigger kitchen area and a bigger dining room. Of course, I'm mad about cooking and entertaining so I'm a bit fixated about the kitchen and dining areas. I've been scouring tips online on choosing dining room furnishings and decor and here's some practical and helpful ones you might want to keep in mind too..

  • When choosing a dining table keep in mind that it must be comfortable enough and should have enough elbow room for the number of people who's going t use it. Designers recommend at least two feet of elbow room for guests and 48 inches to slide a chair away from the dining table. So keep this in mind - your furnishing must leave enough space to move about.
  • Always measure the size of the room you are furnishing. Keep the measurements with you when shopping.
  • Having photographs of the area is also a great help in furniture shopping.
  • The size of your dining table should also consider the number of people who will be regularly using it ie. your family or your guests.
  • Choosing a theme, a style or a color scheme for the room is also a great help in choosing furnishing and you also end up with a room that is even looking and put together vs. mismatched furnishing.

I'm personally thinking of going for a long rectangle table or a medium sized round dining table. There's only four of us regularly using it anyway so I'm kinda liking the look of the dining table pictured above. Of course, well be having a breakfast bar and since we usually serve lunch or dinner to guests buffet style its not much of a space problem. Plus we also have barbecues and the veranda would be provided with extra seating too.

Here's something I saw while browsing through BHG.com's decorating gallery. I love the colors used and this advice works for low ceilings: Don't fight a low ceiling. Accent it with bold swoops of colorful paint applied freehand. Also, "modern, low-slug furnishings help make the short space feel taller."

Also, I got an great idea about using metal pegboard as wall/wall accent. It'll be pretty handy as a divider or to hang frames and family mementos.

One of the storages spaces in our house that usually always ends up in really topsy turvy way is the linen closet. It's not only me who gets stuff from in there and specially when its the children who gets what they want from there, it ends up being all in disarray.

I'm pretty sure a lot of homemakers are in a similar predicament. So here's some practical and easy tips on keeping your linen closet organized.

  1. Use shelf dividers to easily segregate each group of items and to make sure also that things won't topple over. I find cabinets with removable dividers to be the best one to use for linen closets.
  2. Remove shaggy or raggedy towels from the closet, and recycle them. You can use them as rags and store it with cleaning supplies.
  3. Keep only a minimum number of towel sets for each person in the house and an extra set for any guests. This will keep your linen closet de-cluttered.
  4. Extra beddings, towels can be stored in plastic bins and placed under beds.
  5. Bins or stackable plastic organizers are also a great tool to use in storing beauty and health supplies.
  6. If you don't have a place to store it, then don't stock up too much.

I was browsing Trendir.com when I saw this featured. Bloom table lamp by MGX. Its simple, very minimalist and inspired by nature. Designer Patrick Jouin created this contemporary table lamp with a polyamide shade that can expand and collapse. In bud versus blossom form, this lamp offers two very different looks while also filtering through different amounts of light.

Almost like an art, this bloom table lamp would add a unique style and glow to your sitting room and even your kitchen. I would love to have the shadows the structure of the lamp would bring out in a room myself.

The Bloom table lamp is a winner of Good Design Award Winner 2010.

I was looking for some pendant lighting options and ended up browsing one of my top favorite home furnishing sites - DWR or Designs Within Reach. Here's some of my picks. Geometric, modern and minimalist pendant lighting picks. These would be perfect for apartments, smaller houses.

I find myself favoring lighting with minimal designs and those without much elaborate embellishments because they tend to be easier to blend to any type of decor. They are also pretty easy on the eye and doesn't occupy huge spaces.

Nelson Crisscross Pear Pendant - simple elegance. Would work well in a residential or commercial space.

Logico Triple Suspension Lamp - curvaceous and very organic look. another conversation piece.

Le Klint 172B Pendant - stylish with a subtle romantic appeal. I would love to have this in my bedroom.

Artichoke Lamp - Glass - very modern and versatile. Place it in your reception, dining room, kitchen, entry way and it'll blend in well.

Zeppelin S1 - unique and has that very feminine appeal.

Cake Vintage's designer Robbie Cook rounded up a plethora of tea party essentials to create this dramatic dining room focal point, which begs us to ask the question, "Why not serve tea on the ceiling?" Love home trends? Then here's one furniture design that I hope to see as a new trend. Kamkam, the dressed up furniture series. Love this idea! It'll be specially great for those with kids who easily bump themselves on furniture corners. This is the brainchild of Korean design studio- Kamkam.

The Dressed-up Furniture is furniture dressed with felt that is decorated with clothing elements such as belts and buttons that are used to close the cabinet doors. the series consists of four items:a dressed up stool, cham cabinet, cham bench and belt felt.

Love the colors, the soft minimalist look.
